International seminar and workshop, Ludbreg, Croatian Conservation Institute / Ludbreg Conservation Centre and Krizovljan, Chapel of the Holy Cross, 25th-31st August 2003
This seminar/workshop was a follow-up to a previous one titled “Old Masters’ Techniques 2 - Polychrome Techniques”. It featured an examination of polychromy in the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Krizovljan, in cooperation with foreign faculties and laboratories (the Fachhochschule in Potsdam and the Technical University of Munich). The aim was to create a methodology for interventions on the polychrome
layers on the Romanesque chapel which had been heavily renovated.
The seminar was limited to 60 and the workshop to 20 participants: staff of the Croatian Conservation Institute and students of the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts, the Split Academy of Fine Arts, the School of Education and Professional Studies in Potsdam and the Technical University of Munich.
Practical exercises took place for the most part in situ, in the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Krizovljan, with groups alternating so that all participants can take part in all parts of the programme. The programme also included non-destructive methods of examining artefacts, photographing, diagnostics and physical/chemical testing of findings.
