A short portrait of the Croatian Conservation Institute, its organizational units and activities.
A short account of the rehabilitation of St. Thomas the Apostle Chapel in Tomaš, near Bjelovar. The 15th century chapel was built in brick, but all architectural decoration was done in baked clay, which makes it the westernmost and best preserved Brick Gothic monument in continental Croatia.
The booklet gives a short overview of the decades of conservation-restoration work and research of the complex of St. Mary’s Benedictine Convent in Zadar.
The brochure was issued marking the anniversary of the founding of the former Conservation Institute of Croatia in 1966. The Laboratory for Conservation Research was set up as part of the Institute. Devised and organized as a research department for chemical, mineralogical and physical investigations, its task was to examine the condition of monuments and sources of their degradations.
The brochure presents research and conservation-restoration work on the Paradise, Purgatory and Hell painting by Francesco Ugheto. The painting (1654, tempera on canvas, 960×460 cm) from the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in the Franciscan Monastery in Košljun was restored in 2004 and 2005 in the Croatian Conservation Institute.
The heavily damaged Renaissance crucifix from the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral in Rab was brought to the Croatian Conservation Institute's workshops in pieces. It was consolidated, recomposed and restored in 2005.
