Bartolomeo Vivarini's Renaissance altarpiece depicting the scene of Sacra Conversazione was painted in 1475. It is a significant painting in the context of Venetian Quatrocento. Although not part of its original inventory, the painting now embellishes the church of St. Anthony the Abbot in Veli Lošinj: it has been there for almost two centuries, having been left to the town by a Venetian merchant and patron.
This richly illustrated monograph introduces the results of a 5-year-long archaeological research campaign at the prehistoric hill fort and subsequent medieval fortress Čanjevo, located on a steep ridge of the Kalnik Mountain. All aspects of conservation-restoration work are presented in the book; the restoration of archaeological finds along with a reconstruction of late 16th century garments and equipment, as exemplified by the Fort Čanjevo site.
The monograph presents the conservation of the Titian painting St. Mary Magdalene with St. Blaise, Archangel Raphael with Tobias and the Donor from the Dominican Monastery in Dubrovnik, carried out by an interdisciplinary team of experts.
The monograph is a result of extensive research conducted by the Croatian Conservation Institute from 2003 – 2007. The book is entirely based on a five-volume conservation study of the former Sugar Refinery's administrative building, made by the Croatian Conservation Institute. The City of Rijeka published a summary of that study in the form of this monograph, aiming to present this valuable monument to the public and raise awareness of the need for its protection.
