Palace of the Sugar Refinery in Rijeka: The Historical And Conservation Research

Italian title: Il Palazzo dello Zuccherificio di Fiume

The monograph is a result of extensive research conducted by the Croatian Conservation Institute from 2003 – 2007. The book is entirely based on a five-volume conservation study of the former Sugar Refinery's administrative building, made by the Croatian Conservation Institute. The City of Rijeka published a summary of that study in the form of this monograph, aiming to present this valuable monument to the public and raise awareness of the need for its protection.

The book includes a historical overview and the results of conservation research, accompanied by architectural blueprints, photographs, archive materials, tables, chronological overview of its former owners and building interventions, with an inventory list of previous owners' possessions and a reconstruction and presentation proposal. The last section of the book is dedicated to the valuation of palace's relevance in the context of architecture of the region. New insights enabled the palace to be revalued, concluding that the former Sugar Refinery's administrative building, with its architecture and interiors deserves a notable place among Late Baroque monuments in Croatia.
